Community playbook
One class.A full year of brain health programming.
We lead it. Your team picks the date and opens the room. The app does the rest.
What we need from you
That's it. We lead the class, over Zoom or on site, and residents take it from there.
The class
About 90 minutes, and residents leave with something to practice.
Before
Download the app.
Residents join with your community's access code, so the class starts with everyone ready.
In the class
Learn, then do it together.
A short talk on why our senses matter for brain health. The touch test in pairs. The smell test together. An introduction to smell training.
After the class
Finish at home.
Taste, hearing and vision on their own, with short videos to guide them. Hearing works best in a quiet room, which is why it happens at home.
Set it once
Your team never has to manage a medical decision.
Community onboarding takes one sitting: your access code, who residents go to for help, where materials are picked up, and where each kind of next step goes.
Residents always choose what to do.
What runs itself
Each kit covers a resident for a full year.
Each resident sees one clear next step per sense, from smell practice at home to the path your team chose. The app sends reminders, checks in afterward and schedules retests. If your team wants to see who needs attention, the dashboard shows it in one place. If not, it runs on its own.
After launch
Classes are for new residents as they move in.
Once residents have their kits, they don't need another class. That makes SuperSenses an easy part of welcoming someone to your community. You get a one-page summary after each class of how it went.
Proof it runs
Residents asked for more.
"I got five out of ten. After a month, nine out of ten."
Vi La Jolla resident, on the smell test
Residents booked eye exams, updated glasses, and cleared earwax and retested higher. At A Mind for All Seasons, residents get kits shipped straight to them and complete it fully remotely.

"How did I learn so much in a month without actually studying anything? What drew us to Know Your Senses for brain health was the fact that it's so experiential. You're actually doing something with the knowledge that you've learned. I had never had any awareness of the link between brain health and maintaining your senses. When we first did the pre-test, we sniffed these scents. I got five out of 10. And then after I did the testing for a whole month, we did it again and I got nine out of 10. And I thought to myself, how did I learn so much in a month without actually studying anything? This experience woke up part of my brain that wasn't functioning as well before. Wow, I can smell all that again. How much your senses affect your health, especially your brain health. That was quite a revelation to me. I had more ways of accumulating information, storing information, and retrieving it than I thought I did. You need to use it or potentially lose it. We even talked to each other in the halls about did you do this or did you do that? I would highly recommend Know Your Senses for brain health because it's been very well received here in La Jolla. I can't think of a reason not to join it. It's a good way to discover that the brain has more ways of working than we realize."
Questions we hear most
The two questions every community asks first.
When do residents retest?
The first result comes from all five senses, finished within 14 days. After that, each sense keeps its own clock, and the kit covers all of it for a full year.
Days 0 to 14
All five senses. The first result.
Week 12
Smell retest after a round of smell practice.
Every 3 to 6 months
Smell, hearing and vision, depending on the result.
Every 12 months
Taste and touch.
Any time
Your team can move a date, like after new hearing aids.
What happens when a result comes back low?
Nothing lands on your staff. The resident gets one next step that starts at home. Example, smell:
Check today
A cold or a noisy room? The app offers a fair retest first.
Practice
12 weeks, four scents, twice a day.
Retest
Before and after, side by side.
Still low
The path your team chose, such as an ENT, with a one-page summary to share with family.
Low hearing starts with clearing earwax and retesting. Two or more senses low goes to the review path you set.
Is this a medical program?
No. SuperSenses is general wellness programming that measures and manages the five senses. It doesn't diagnose or predict anything, and every care decision stays with residents and their own providers.
Is it right for our residents?
It's less about age than comfort with the app. Independent living residents do it on their own after the class. Anyone who prefers help can be guided by a staff member, and the touch test is always done in pairs.
What does it take from our staff?
One person to schedule the class, invite residents and be in the room. We lead it. No staff member needs to read or explain a result; the app does that.
How accurate are the tests?
Each test is benchmarked against its clinical gold standard, measure by measure, in an IRB-approved, international, multi-site study, with results expected in 2027.
What happens to resident data?
It's the resident's. They can download their full record as a PDF at any time or share it with family or their doctor. Your team sees results only for residents in your program, and only if your community chooses to. Data is used for research only in aggregated, anonymized form.
